Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Welcome To Puglia & Bari

Meet your tour guide at 14.00 in Bari for a fascinating walking tour through the ancient alleys visiting the Basilica of St. Nicholas, one of the most remarkable examples of Romanesque architecture, the exterior of the Swabian Castle built in Norman times and the fish market. Following this, travel to the stunning white town of Ostuni, for a three nights stay at a central boutique hotel. Dinner is included this evening in a local restaurant.

Day 2: UNESCO Alberobello & Hands-on-Cooking class

Today’s visit takes you to the UNESCO town of Alberobello, famous for its district of Trulli, spread over the hillside to the south of the town. These square structures have conical roofs covered with “Chiancarelle”, grey-limestone roof slabs and are crowned by differently shaped pinnacles, each with a magical significance. Your expert guide will show you an 18th century small Trullo house, giving something of the atmosphere of trullo life, with sweet, rounded rooms that include a re-created bakery, bedroom and kitchen. Today, you are invited to the house of an Apulian family for a hands-on-cooking making experience accompanied by a light lunch. Dinner is on your own this evening

Day 3: Private Boat in Polignano a Mare & Primitivo Winery

This morning’s visit takes you to Polignano A Mare to sightsee and set sail on our private boat tour (weather permitting) that will take us along the spectacular coast. We’ll then take a walk through the postcard-worthy town perched on the edge of a cliff. We’ll drive to experience a well-known winery located in the Manduria region for a tasting of their wines “Primitivo” followed by a light lunch. Rest of the day is at leisure in beautiful Ostuni

Day 4: Locorotondo & Olive Oil Farm

Today, experience daily life in Puglia through its most cherished traditions. Begin with a visit to a family-run masseria for a guided tour and tasting of their fragrant olive oils, learning firsthand how this liquid gold shapes both the cuisine and culture of southern Italy. We then continue to the whitewashed hilltop village of Locorotondo, one of the most picturesque towns in Italy. Its quiet streets curve in graceful circles, framed by flower-filled balconies and sunlit stone archways that speak of centuries of care. From there, travel inland to the graceful city of Lecce, often called the “Florence of the South,” a place of golden stone and timeless baroque beauty.

Day 5: Elegant Lecce

Lecce is well known for its extensive collection of Baroque mansions and churches that are intricately sculpted from local soft sandstone. In the morning, we’ll take a private city tour to see the top sights. Besides remarkable architecture, Lecce is also known for its paper-Mache handicrafts, displaying skills and artistry that are hard to find elsewhere. Afterward, enjoy a typical caffe’ leccese before having the rest of the day to yourself to explore the city. We highly recommend visiting the Museo Faggiano, giving you a greater insight into the city’s centuries-long history.

Day 6: The Marvels Of Otranto & The Salento Peninsula

This morning tour venture takes you to Cape Otranto where we visit a recently restored 19th century lighthouse from where on clear days you can see the mountains of Albania. Next, we move to the beautiful walled harbor town of Otranto, overlooking the turquoise Adriatic sea. On a walking tour here we see the stunning Cathedral where, in the interior you can find a remarkable 12th century mosaic floor depicting the Tree of Life balanced on the back of two elephants. In the late afternoon, arrive in Matera, one of Italy’s most extraordinary towns, known for its ancient cave dwellings carved from stone. Settle into your boutique cave hotel and prepare to explore this unforgettable UNESCO World Heritage site.

Day 7: Exploring the Ancient Sassi and Timeless Beauty of Matera

Today is devoted to discovering Matera, one of the world’s oldest continuously inhabited cities and a true masterpiece of southern Italy. With your expert local guide, explore the labyrinth of cave dwellings known as the Sassi di Matera, carved into the luminous limestone cliffs and once home to generations of artisans and monks. Wander through prehistoric grottoes, ancient tabernacles, and medieval churches adorned with remarkable frescoes, each corner revealing traces of the city’s layered past. Matera’s haunting beauty has made it the backdrop for several acclaimed films, its dramatic scenery perfectly suited to epic storytelling. Enjoy the afternoon at leisure to explore its winding streets and hidden terraces before gathering this evening for dinner at a local restaurant.
