Tour description

Delight in a special exploration of both islands, with their amazing climate, dramatic vistas and hearty cuisine that embodies all things Maltese. Many were those who occupied the islands in the course of their lengthy history leaving behind an artistic and cultural heritage. The Maltese Islands are like nowhere else. Here you will find great prehistoric temples, fossil-studded cliffs, glittering hidden coves, thrilling diving opportunities and a history of remarkable intensity.

The islands of Malta and Gozo offer a rich historical past, its oldest Neolithic Temples dating back to more than 3500 years BC!  The elegant capital Valletta, with its proud city walls and wonderful palaces; medieval Mdina, the so called “silent City” because of its quite winding narrow streets and laid-back atmosphere, fascinating underground chambers, and Naxxar with its amazingly Palace are only a few of the  highlights to mention.

Malta’s beautiful landscapes, harbors and marvelous bays and stunning cliffs are more than just a background- they create a scenery in which the golden local limestone just fits in perfectly.

On this small group journey, you’ll enjoy the contrasts of everyday life in these very different islands corners as you mingle with the locals during exclusive meals, wine tasting, boat trips and more cultural experiences.

Do not go with the crowd – our local knowledge takes you to Malta’s most interesting sights, but out of the beaten path, and not to crowded touristic places. We believe this is the best way to truly smell, taste and savor the country you are visiting.Live like a local!!

Arrival in Malta and transfer to VALLETTA for your first three nights a central boutique hotel. Meet your tour guide at 7.00 pm in the hotel lobby for dinner in a local restaurant. Overnight in VALLETTA

Colloquially known as “Il-Belt”, VALLETTA is the capital city of Malta that was built during the rule of the Knights of St. John. Today’s visit will begin from the Upper Barakka gardens, perched high above the Grand harbor where your local expert will show you the highlights of this magical city, discovering its hidden beauty, with plenty of time on your own in Republic Street  for shopping or sightseeing. Included are interior visits to the top two sites of St. John’s Co-Cathedral with its museum, dating back to the 16th century, boasting two masterpieces by Caravaggio and The Grand Masters Palace which houses the Parliament and the president’s office. After an included foodie experience with local “PASTIZZI” pastry, you’ll visit a stunning 16th century ANCIENT PALACE. The rest of the afternoon is at leisure, maybe visiting the ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM. Overnight in VALLETTA

This morning, board a typical Maltese gondola for a 30 mins harbor cruise, ending at the city of VITTORIOSA, one of the most enchanting within the THREE CITIES, the towns extending towards Valletta, dividing the Grand Harbor into deep inlets. In Vittoriosa you’ll visit the INQUISITOR’S PALACE, featuring plain prison cells and dungeons on the lower floors, which contrast with the highly decorated private apartments of the Inquisitors themselves above, including the Tribunal room where evidence was heard and verdicts were issued. You’ll also visit the WAR MUSEUM, housed in an 18th century army barracks which served as a police station and air raid precautions center during the war. Following this, you will be transferred to Valletta for time at leisure. In the evening meet your tour guide for an included Maltese aperitif followed by dinner on your own. Overnight in VALLETTA

Our morning destination is the megalithic temples of HAGAR QIM (3600 to 3000 BC) the best preserved and most evocative of Malta’s prehistoric sites. Continue to the charming fishing village of MARSAXLOKK, famous for its brightly colored fishing boats which ride at anchor and where the wives of the fishermen knot nylon string bags for the tourists. After lunch on your own, you’ll explore more in depth the south coast travelling along the rocky coast of WIED IZ-ZURRIEQ stopping off at the Blue Grotto to enjoy amazing views (not included boat trip to the Blue Grotto).Drive to the port of Cirkewwa to transfer you by 25-minutes ferry to the island of GOZO for your next two nights at an elegant 5stars hotel. Dinner is included this evening in a local restaurant. Overnight in GOZO

The idyllic island of GOZO, the second largest island of the Maltese archipelago is more rural and popular for its scenic hills, which are featured on its coat of arms. Our day starts with a walking tour of the fortified capital city of VICTORIA with its enchanting Citadel followed by a panoramic drive around the island, stopping off at Dwejra, the fishing village of Xlendi, Ramla Bay and the Ggantija Temples. We have included today a foodie experience of typical Gozitan pizza. Enjoy a light dinner in a popular Gozitan restaurant accompanied by Maltese
wines. Overnight stay in GOZO

After ferry-crossing from Gozo back to Malta, today’s visit takes you to central Malta, one of the most fascinating regions. Our tour begins with a visit to MOSTA, where you’ll visit the monument of St Mary’s Church, with its third largest unsupported dome in the world dedicated to the Assumption. On April 9,1942, the church was nearly destroyed during War World II. An Axis bomb hit the dome of the church but failed to explode. The detonator was removed and a replica is now displayed as a memorial. We then move to RABAT for admiring the unique ST PAUL’S CATACOMBS, the earliest and largest archaeological evidence of Christianity in Malta. Continue to a popular MALTESE WINERY for a tasting of their wines following a scenic drive along the DINGLI CLIFFS. End your day visiting the silent town of MDINA, one of the world’s finest examples of a medieval city that is still inhabited. A time capsule of medieval palazzi and a world unto itself. Spend the last night of your Maltese experience near the elegant San Anton Gardens. This evening, we include a farewell dinner in a nearby restaurant. Overnight stay in SAN ANTON

We Love Malta!!!

Wow – Malta has been fantastic! We really enjoyed our time spent in Malta with Secret Italia. The itinerary was spot on and we enjoyed all the sites.Cynthia was a fantastic guild. We appreciated all her attention to details and her vast knowledge of Malta. We were lucky to have her as our guide. The Kempinski Hotel in Gozo was very nice. Our accommodations, the amenities, and staff were worthy of a five star hotel and made for an enjoyable visit. We enjoyed our welcome dinner as well as the dinner the following night. Both were very memorable. The Phoenicia Hotel is world class. What an excellent choice you made. It’s the perfect retreat after a long day of sightseeing. We enjoyed meeting the General Manager Robyn Pratt. She asked how our accommodations were and we told her that we would have preferred a king size bed.She upgraded our room from a queen size room to a king. What a delightful lady.We are looking forward to seeing our driver tomorrow at 3:30 to begin our trip home.We will send you our review of the Italian Lakes trip when we return home.Again Aldo, thanks for everything. We had a great time.Looking forward to our future trips with Secret Italia.
