DAY 1: WELCOME TO SICILY
Arrive at Palermo International airport and group travel to the enchanted fishing town of CEFALU’ for a two nights stay at our exclusive “ARTEMIS HOTEL” or similar. A welcome dinner is included this evening in a local restaurant. Overnight in CEFALU’
DAY 2: CAPTIVATING CEFALU’ & LA DOLCE VITA
After breakfast, meet your guide for a discovery tour of the charming fishing town of CEFALU‘. The squares, streets and churches of this medieval town are so postcard-pretty that it’s no wonder director Giuseppe Tornatore chose to set parts of his much-loved film Cinema Paradiso here. Most of Cefalu’ sites are found in the historic town center around Corso Ruggero and Piazza del Duomo, where you can visit the striking Cathedral, a mosaic-adorned outpost of Norman power and one of the jewels in Sicily’s Arab-Norman crown.Rest of the day is at leisure to get the most of this fascinating town.Dinner is on your own this evening.Overnight in CEFALU’
DAY 3 : HIGHLIGHTS OF PALERMO, THE MUSEUM OF THE SALT & MARSALA
An included guided tour will help you to discover the highlights of PALERMO,the Sicilian capital. A crossroads of history, Palermo holds the distinction of being the world’s most conquered city, following conquests by the Phoenicians, Romans, Byzantines, Arabs and Normans. We have included today a visit to the bustling open market IL CAPO located in the ancient Arabic quarter of the city, the striking PALATINE CHAPEL, an evocative chapel dating back to the 12th century with amazing mosaics.Afterwards,depart to Western Sicily which has always been more African than European. Enjoy a panoramic drive travelling along the Trapani Salt Road, passing Salt Pans and windmills. Spend the next two nigths at the central ” HOTEL CARMINE“or similar. Overnight in MARSALA
DAY 4: CHARMING MARSALA & WINERY
Today we begin touring the striking town of MARSALA, the most popular wine producer on the entire island.A local tour guide will take you on an orientation tour to discover the highlights of this unique town. We then continue to a popular winery for a wine tasting of the engaging white from Catarratto grapes or the beguiling Mille e una Notte, named after Scheherazade, a spicy deep blend of Nero D’Avola, Petit Verdot and Syrah accompanied by a delicious lunch.Enjoy the Sicilian Dolce Vita on your own.Overnight in MARSALA
DAY 5: VALLEY OF THE TEMPLES, CALTAGIRONE CERAMICS & RAGUSA IBLA
Following breakfast,we’ll visit AGRIGENTO where you’ll view the finest of all ancient Greek sites – the complete Doric Temples and the Archaeological museum,one of the most important and visited archaeological museums in Sicily. Afterwards, continue to CALTAGIRONE, one of the iconic Baroque towns in central Sicily and known as “The city of Sicilian ceramics” due to its thousand-year-old ceramic tradition. Here you are free to wander through the many artisan workshops, do a spot of shopping, visit the Regional Museum of Ceramics and tackle the 142-step monumental Staircase of Santa Maria del Monte, built from 1608 in the old part of the town.Continue our Sicilian adventure to the hill town of RAGUSA where we spend the next to nights at the central “ITRIA PALACE” or similar. DAY 6: LA DOLCE VITA IN ELEGANT RAGUSA IBLA
Today’s morning tour takes you to witness the splendors of the Sicilian Baroque architecture, part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.In 1693, in the wake of a mighty eruption of Etna, this corner of Sicily was devastated by an earthquake. Towns were rapidly rebuilt out of the glowing local limestone.Meet your local guide for a walking discovery tour of charming RAGUSA IBLA, famous for its labyrinth of crooked lanes,tiny squares and noble Palazzos.After an afternoon at leisure, you will enjoy a dinner in a local restaurant. DAY 7: SIRACUSA AMORE MIO
In the morning, drive to the splendid UNESCO site of SIRACUSA, a major outpost of the Greek empire, which boasts an incredible historical heritage, starting from the Archaeological park, featuring the ancient Amphitheater where Palto once appeared. Much of the ancient city of Siracusa has now been obliterated by more recent buildings, but there are considerable remains of historic structures both in the archaeological area of Neapolis and on the promontory of Ortigia.You can see numerous elegant Baroque town houses, rebuilt after the earthquake that severely damaged the city in 1693. In the early afternoon, drive to the TAORMINA RIVIERA for the last three nights at the central “HOTEL VILLA DIODORO” or similar.Overnight in TAORMINA or similar
DAY 8: CHIC TAORMINA & HOME HOSTED LUNCH
This morning we have arranged a guided tour of TAORMINA.Its origins goes back to the time of Dionysius in about 400 BC. It remained an important city during the Greek and Roman periods and the Theatre and Odeon still survive as reminders of those times. Taormina also boasts a number of elegant mansions and palaces dating back from the Middle Ages, and several interesting churches including the 15th century fortified cathedral, and St Pancras’, which incorporates part of a Greek temple.After an included visit to the ancient theater,you’ll drive to a small village where a Sicilian family will open the door of their house for an included lunch.Rest of the day is at leisure.Overnight in TAORMINA or similar
DAY 9: A MORNING VISIT TO MOUNT ETNA
After breakfast, explore majestic MOUNT ETNA, known to the Greeks as the “column that holds up the sky”- Mt Etna is the highest and largest volcano in Europe and one of the world’s most active.The peak changes in size over the years. It currently rises at 11,000 feet above sea level and literally towers above Sicily’s Ionian coast and since 1987. Its slopes have been part of the Etna Parkland, an area that encompasses both alpine forests and the forbiddingly black summit.You’ll ascend to 7,000 ft.and take a walk to visit the Silvestri Craters and new lava flow from recent eruptions. Following this, return to your hotel to enjoy the rest of the day at leisure followed by a dinner in a local restaurant.Overnight stay in TAORMINA or similar
